Time: 11:00-12:05
Breakout Session 1: Leather – the Truly Sustainable Material
Session’s brief
Leathermaking is one of the oldest crafts and trades and use of leather has been part of human civilization for centuries. Whilst the leather industry has often been rightfully criticized for bad working conditions and environmental degradation, there is also a recognition that leather can be a sustainable material when produced and managed responsibly. Against this backdrop, this breakout session aims to explore the idea of “Leather – the Truly Sustainable Material” and find out how Bangladesh can leverage this narrative to boost its export potential while adhering to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) stands. It will further shed light on how by embracing sustainability, Bangladesh can not only enhance its global competitiveness but also contribute to a sustainable leather industry.

Linking Bangladesh to the Global Value Chain
Date: October 13, 2023
Time: 15:00-16:05
Breakout Session 2: Linking Bangladesh to the Global Value Chain
Session’s brief
Integration into the Global Value Chain (GVC) will allow Bangladesh to tap into the vast global market for leather products and footwear. This can lead to increased exports and overall economic growth. A robust supply chain can improve a country’s international competitiveness and attract foreign investment. Mitigating supply chain risk is especially important for Bangladesh’s manufacturing industry to remain competitive and continue its growth. The session will attempt to explore some steps that Bangladesh must take to de-risk its supply chain. It will discuss how to implement risk management strategies that can help exporters operate more efficiently, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction. At the same time, the session will try to identify how Bangladeshi exporters can connect better to the global value chains of major brands and buyers to build long-term competitive advantage. How can we use regionalization and localization trends in this case?
